Reisastua - The Takes

Fishing in the Reisa River

The Reisa River (or Reisaelva in Norwegian) is 120 km long and originates in Finnmark. The salmon go 85 km up to the Imofossen waterfall. There are 19 zones containing good fishing spots, with a large number of deep pools for fly-fishing.
The Reisa River has a reputation for big salmon and whoppers are caught annually here weighing around 20 kg. So if you are looking to set a record, the Reisa River may be the right river.
Each autumn, large stocks of sea trout migrate up the river. The river has fantastic fly-fishing rapids and deep pools. We transport our guests by riverboat into the national park for exciting fishing for big salmon in majestic nature.
Our guides have considerable salmon fishing experience and will gladly show our guests where the salmon.

Note in particular that catch statistics show that the Reisa River is one of the world's best salmon rivers with an average weight of the 2010 season at 6.5 kg

Salmon fishing

Season: July 1 - August 31

The number of fish running the Reisa River has boomed over the last 10 yrs. In 1999, when the stock was at a critical level, everyone realized that something had to be done. The board of river owners  took action and introduced regulations that could protect the spawning stock. Most important changes was

·         To introduce c&r for all henfish over 10 pound.

·         Banning of Rapala and worm fishing

·         Nets out of the fjord system and estuary

·         Financing of river scouts after season close, to protect the spawning grounds from poaching

Reisastua supporting c&r policy and encouraging all their clients to release their fish, to ensure future generations of salmon.

The 2011 story

Here you will find pictures of some of our guests and you can read about some of our guests' experiences at Reisastua.

This years season was very good and in total there were catched about 8 tons of salmon in total.

Reisa River consolidate its position as big salmon river in that it was taken many salmon between 15 and 23 kg.

We are particularly pleased that so many big female salmons was released back to the river.

This means we have great faith in the coming seasons.
