Salmon fishing 2010 - The full story

This year's season started on July 1 at 10. Our first guests were Asbjørn Myhre and his fishing buddies Henry, Torleif and Andre. They came all the way from Stavanger, a city in the west part of Norway. The boys landed at Tromsø Airport where the rental car was waiting. Reisastua escorted them with supporting cars on the 3-hour car journey from Tromsø to Nordreisa where Reisastua located. There are two alternative roads, we took a trip through Lyngen and after and half hours including 2 ferry trips with inlaid coffee breaks, we came to Reisastua afternoon the day before the river opened. The evening was spent to get better acquainted with Reisastuas guides and rigging equipment.

It was also time to taste good beer from Mack, The world's northernmost brewery and to enjoy a good meal.

Henrik and others enjoying themselves on the veranda while they rig equipment.

Reisastuas guides also participated in a discussion on fly selection.

Henrik has finshed rigging and strongly believe that opening day should be exciting.

The boys fly elections seemed to work well and they had several large salmon in the next few days.

Torleif with his record salmon weighing 11 kg.

The fish were caught in zone 6 and released.

The biggest fish was reeled in by Asbjørn with a One-handed rod - a nice and shiny big salmon on 15 kg, which was set back to river.

The salmon was taken in Zone 7

Here Asbjørn puts a big salmon back into the river.

It's a great feeling when the big salmon are given the gift of life after a hectic battle with an experienced salmon fisherman.

Releasing of the big salmon are a major reason why the fishing has been so good in the river and Reisastua recommend all our customers to release all the salmon that are unharmed.

The last day of fishing the guys rented river boats and experienced fishing in the upper river. It was a fantastic river boat trip with fishing in the great fly-rapids.

Many salmon were seen, but only Henry was able to catch one.

Henry with a superb 10 kg salmon caught in the river.

Unfortunately, the fly sat too deep inside the fish mouth so that it was not possible to release this beautiful salmon. Thus, this ended up as smoked salmon and can be enjoyed in the winter while Henry dreams himself back to Reisastua.

The guys from Stavanger got several large salmon and 3 of the guys set personal records.

We hope that the group from Stavanger were satisfied with their stay and we welcome them to set new records in the years to come!

Robert got his 'salmon of a lifetime' in 'Mikkenakken' opening day. The beautiful and unusually large female salmon weighed a total of 17.7 kg and is one of the largest females captured through the ages. (Please refer to the film of the fight and release in our 2010 film gallery.)

Bjørn-Ove has fished salmon since 1986 and finally it was his turn to land a huge salmon. The male salmon weighed 15.4 kg and after a long and exciting fight (which can also be seen in the 2010 film gallery), it was very emotional when the record salmon were finally on land. Bjørn-Ove has been a guest on Reisastua for many years and have caught many salmon over the years. Since this fish is very special for both Bjorn-Ove and Reisastua we agreed that it should be stuffed and displayed in pride of place at Reisastua Lodge.

We hope that there will not be another 30 years before the next equally large salmon are beeing caught!

We congratulate and wish Bjørn-Ove welcome back next year.

Stig got 4 big salmons and the largest was 12 kg. In addition, he created the wonderful salmon soup and -dinner. Some of the dishes were served well after midnight but it does not matter when we have daylight and midnight sun 24 hours a day. You should know we are quite a bit north of the polar circle.

One of our guests, Stig, with his 9 kg salmon caught in the pool called 'Mikkenakken'.

Jimmy was in great shape this summer and got a lot of big salmon. The largest measured 118 cm and weighed about 18 kg. Jimmy has set a personal best three times in the last 2 years.

Jimmy with his 8 kg salmon.

According to him, this is regarded as small salmon!

Atle was fishing together with Jimmy and there was great joy when he got a nice salmon of 11 kg. When he put the salmon back into the river, the atmosphere was so sensitive that both guides and fishermen were almost in tears.

Soon after it was time for a brandy and a cup of campfire coffee.

Jimmy with his last personal best. A monster salmon of 118 cm and 18 kg. The male salmon took the fly at 'Hårrika' and Jimmy fought an intense and exciting fight for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The fight was so intense that the boat had to be used and the salmon were taken ashore on a small island at the bottom of the pool 'Hårrika'.

Please refer to the fight in our movie gallery for 2010.

We expect the 20kg record will easily be beat next year!

Peter and Knut from a local firm called IT Partner leased Reisastua a few days in July. After some great days with good fishing both had received 2 nice salmon and lost several.

Knut Henrik from IT Partner with a great big salmon caught in 'Mikkenakken'. It weighed in at 11.5 kg and is Knut's new personal record.

Johan Wikstrøm from Sweden were lucky and got several nice salmon. He also set a new personal best with a salmon of almost 11 kg.

Jørn Henriksen from Alta also had two salmon.

Here he shows a ready-to-eat salmon of 4.9 kg.

Jørn with a nice salmon at 8 kg that could not be put back into the River.

For Jørn this is regardes as small salmon since he has landed several large salmon of over 20 kg in the Alta River. We want Jørn welcome back so he can show us all how really big salmon shold be catched.

Our Danish friends Morten, Niels and Sebastian rented our annex beside our main building for a week. Morten and Sebastian set new flyfish records, respectively, 13 and 7 kg while Niels had most salmon ashore.

Here he poses with a salmon of about 10 kg which could not be released.

Here we see Morten Jørgensen with his 'salmon of a lifetime' weighing in at 13 kg taken in Mikkenakken.

We are particularly pleased that Morten got this great salmon since he got sick during his stay.

We are sure that Morten and the other happy Danes will return next year to measure forces with the really big Reisa salmons.

Roar with a small salmon.

Jani from Finland with his new personal best of about 9 kg.

Jari, and Jani Ilkka from Finland rented the annex for a week and got over 80 kg of salmon altogether.

These very skilled fly fishermen put almost everything back to the river.

It seemed as if they liked the pool at Pontaelvmunningen the best.

Ilkka (from Finland) with a great big salmon caught by Pontaelva in Zone 9. The fish were put back into the river. Please refer to the film of the match in Reisastuas film gallery for 2010.
